Three routes to patent protection
You can apply to patent your invention in one or several countries individually or you can choose a centralised granting or application procedure such as the European or international procedure. The procedures can also be combined. The filing date of the first application always establishes the priority.
There are three possibilities for applying for a patent, which lead to two types of patents for Switzerland and Liechtenstein – a national and a European patent. Both are administered by the IPI.
