The Lisbon System enables the protection of an appellation of origin (AO) or a geographical indication (GI) through a quick and simple registration procedure. 

You can request to extend the protection of your Swiss AO or GI to the member states of the Lisbon System with a single application. Your application will then be subject to a substantive examination in each member state. If it is approved, you will obtain a high level of protection for your denomination for an unlimited period of time in each country participating in the Lisbon System.
