Classifying your design
Every design belongs to a class of goods!
The appropriate class of goods must be indicated on your design application. The IPI is responsible for assigning one class per design. You can find an overview of the classifications under the Locarno Agreement in our Guide for registering a design.
A list of possible terms can be found in the "DESIGNclass" database of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO).
An individual design or a whole series of designs?
Have you created a whole series of designs? You can group designs together into one application provided they belong to the same Locarno class of goods. You can submit as many designs as you like with such a multiple application – for six designs or more, no extra basic fees will be charged.
If a multiple application is not possible because the products belong to different classes of goods, you should apply to register each design individually.
