Lower annual fees for Swiss patents
From 1 July 2019, new annual fees will apply to Swiss patents and supplementary protection certificates (SPCs). The Federal Council approved the amendment to the IPI Fee Ordinance on 17 April 2019.
As a result, a Swiss patent will be less expensive over its entire maximum term of validity. The annual fees will continue to increase in line with the term of the patent. However, they will now increase in smaller increments in the first number of years and in larger increments in later years. Over the entire maximum twenty-year lifespan of a patent, its owner will save CHF 1440.
Supplementary protection certificates (SPCs) are added on to the term of the patent. Their annual fees follow the progression of the annual patent renewal fees and will therefore see an increase. Nevertheless, over the entire term of a patent with an added SPC, the costs will be reduced by CHF 210.
Heretypo3/ you will find an overview of the new annual fees for Swiss patents and SPCs.
You can find further information on the fee changes in the Federal Council’s media release.
