We want to hear from you: survey on artificial intelligence (AI) and patent law
Artificial intelligence is playing an ever-greater role in the development of new technologies. This also raises new questions for patent law.
The IPI and the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS) are exploring these questions in a joint survey. It focusses on three themes: the threshold for recognising a person as an inventor, AI-generated technical information as potential prior art, and the influence of AI on the assessment of inventive step.
We are interested in your practical experience. The survey is aimed in particular at patent attorneys, lawyers and legal counsel working in intellectual property, researchers, industry associations and companies. The IPI will analyse the responses received in Switzerland and compare them with the results from Singapore. The aim is to gain a clearer picture of how the increasing use of AI is affecting the patent system.
The survey runs from 26 August to 31 October 2026.
