Create and verify a list of goods and services

You can prepare a list of goods and services (LGS) in various ways in the classification tool. You can use the 45 standard classes, search for individual terms in our databases or import an existing list, e.g. from a published trade mark or from a file. The verification is then performed automatically.

Create

Apply LGS from an existing trade mark

If you know a Swiss trade mark with a list of goods and services that would also be suitable for your trade mark, you can import the list and edit it. To do so, enter the application or trade mark number, which you will find in Swissreg.

Create LGS from standard classes

When you create a list from standard classes, the classification tool displays all 45 classes of the Nice Classification with the standard selection of the goods and services in each class. You can select the applicable classes, add them to your list and then adapt them.

Paste LGS from clipboard or insert from a file

If you’ve already created a list, you can either import it from the clipboard or from a file. Ensure that the format is correct:

Clipboard and .txt:

  • The class number and the corresponding class texts must be on separate lines.
  • The class text must end with a full stop
  • Use the standard UTF-8 encoding to ensure that accents and umlauts are displayed correctly.

Example:
1
quenching fluids for use in metalworking; reducing agents for use in photography; acetal.
3
scouring solutions; floor stripping preparations; after-shave gel.

File in .csv format:

  • Each line must include the class number and one term, separated by a comma (no spaces).
  • The columns must be called class and term (separated by a comma, without spaces).
  • Use the standard UTF-8 encoding to ensure that accents and umlauts are displayed correctly.

Example:
class,term
1,quenching fluids for use in metalworking
1,reducing agents for use in photography
1,acetal
3,floor stripping preparations
3,after-shave gel

Add terms using the search function

You can also search directly for individual terms and add the terms found to your list. If necessary, use the advanced search functions to find similar terms, for example, and use the filters available to narrow down the results.

This function is always available at the bottom of the classification tool. You can also use it in combination with the other four creation options.

Verify

Once you’ve created or imported a list, it will be automatically verified. All terms are checked against our databases and highlighted in colour if there are any discrepancies. The icons displayed will help you to identify the problem:

  •   The term is listed twice in the same class.
  •   The term exists in the database in a different class.
  •   The term exists in the database with a difference in capitalisation.
  •   The term is marked as unacceptable in the database.
  •   Not in the database, general error or multiple notes applicable.
  •   The term contains multiple spaces.
  •   The term contains an invalid character.

You can file the list despite the notes – even if a phrase isn’t found in the databases, it may still be accepted.

However, using terms from our databases can significantly speed up the application process and prevent objections regarding the classification.

IPI+WIPO | WIPO filters

Use the option IPI+WIPO as a filter if you want to verify a list of goods and services for a Swiss trade mark application.

If you wish to verify a list for an international application, select the WIPO filter. The database used for this purpose contains only terms agreed with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), including those from the Nice Classification. Unfortunately, we can’t guarantee that WIPO won’t object to the list of goods and services.

Please also note that lists of goods and services for international applications must be filed in French.
