Counterfeiting and piracy affect all sectors and transcend national borders. National and international cooperation is required to effectively combat this scourge. This is why the IPI is involved at national level and in international organisations.

To combat counterfeiting and piracy, Switzerland is actively involved in numerous international organisations that deal with enforcing intellectual property rights. These include:

• The Advisory Committee on Enforcement (ACE) of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO ACE)
• The Council of the WTO (World Trade Organization) that deals with trade-related aspects of intellectual property rights (WTO TRIPS Council)
• The Interpol Intellectual Property Crime Action Group (IIPCAG)
• The UN’s UNECE Team of Specialists on Intellectual Property (UNECE ToS IP)
• The United Nations Crime Research Institute (UNICRI)  
• The Informal Advisory Group on Counterfeiting and Piracy within the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) 
• The OECD’s Task Force on Charting Illicit Trade
• The International Medical Products Anti-Counterfeiting Taskforce (IMPACT) run by the World Health Organization
• The European Observatory on Infringements of Intellectual Property Right
