International intellectual property law
The IPI represents the interests of Switzerland on issues concerning intellectual property (IP) at international level.
- We represent Switzerland within regional and international IP organisations such as in the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the European Patent Organisation (EPO).
- We support other federal agencies in negotiations within organisations and working groups that do not have intellectual property as their main focus. We are involved, for example, in the World Trade Organisation (WTO), the World Health Organization (WHO), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), as well as in the forums of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).
- We negotiate the provisions on intellectual property in bilateral agreements and maintain with some trading partners a close exchange on intellectual property regardless of trade agreements, such as with China for example.
