Top secret: how companies keep their innovations under wraps

Trade secrecy is a unique way in which companies can protect their innovations. It allows them to prevent competitors from finding out the recipe for a food product, for example. In our blogpost, we peek behind the curtains of trade secrecy.

Coca-Cola exemplifies how a secret can endure for generations. The company still keeps the recipe for its iconic drink in a safe. This attracts attention – and also serves as protection. Because the mysticism often covers up harsh realities. Trade secrets are sometimes the only option left if an invention isn’t patentable. And some companies even deliberately choose not to apply for a patent for strategic reasons, even though they could obtain one.
