“It was important for us to protect our invention from day one”

The Swiss start-up Scewo has invented a wheelchair that can climb steps. The innovative product is manufactured entirely on Scewo’s premises in Technopark, Winterthur. In a video interview with the IPI, the founder Thomas Gemperle explains how it all began and what role patents and design protection played in the company’s journey to success.

Fifty employees at Scewo work on producing this nimble e-wheelchair, which is called BRO. They’re the brains behind everything – from the software to construction.
