Involvement of the IPI
Nationally and internationally
Counterfeiting and piracy affects all sectors and doesn't stop at national borders. National and international cooperation is required to successfully tackle it. The Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property (IPI) is committed to fighting counterfeiting and piracy both domestically and within international organisations.
Nationally
STOP PIRACY is the Swiss anti-counterfeiting and piracy platform. As a founding member of this association, the IPI plays an important role in this field. It was founded in 2005 and is a public-private partnership made up of members from the public administration and the private sector. It works to raise public awareness of the risks and background of counterfeiting and piracy, and is committed to facilitating cooperation between industry and public authorities.
Internationally
In the fight against counterfeiting and piracy, Switzerland is actively involved in numerous international organisations that deal with enforcing intellectual property rights. These include:
- The Advisory Committee on Enforcement (ACE) of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO ACE)
- The Council of the WTO (World Trade Organization) that deals with trade-related aspects of intellectual property rights (WTO TRIPS Council)
- The Interpol Intellectual Property Crime Action Group (IIPCAG)
